BGMI Kab Launch Hua Tha? Every Launch Date, 2021 to 2023

BGMI kab launch hua tha? Battlegrounds Mobile India was first released on Android on 2 July 2021 and on iOS on 18 August 2021, per Wikipedia’s release history. KRAFTON’s game was pulled from both app stores on 28 July 2022 following a government order, and became playable again on 29 May 2023.

That is the short answer. The longer one is that “launch” means at least five different dates, and most pages ranking for this question stop at one of them. This is an evergreen history explainer: the dates below do not change, and this desk read the sources for them on 18 October 2026.

When did BGMI first launch, and why the confusion?

The game came out of the PUBG Mobile ban. Per Wikipedia’s BGMI article, MeitY blocked PUBG Mobile on 2 September 2020. BGMI was announced on 6 May 2021 as an India-only version.

The confusion starts in June 2021. A Navbharat Times report of 2 June, citing a tipster, put the launch on 18 June. What actually arrived on 17 June was an early access beta for Android, not a release. The full Android release came on 2 July. iPhone players waited almost seven more weeks, until 18 August.

When did BGMI launch on iOS?

On 18 August 2021. Wikipedia’s infobox cites a Financial Express story for that date whose citation date reads 1994, plainly an error; the 2021 date comes from the article body.

When was BGMI banned, and when did it relaunch?

Per Wikipedia, as of July 2022 BGMI had passed 280 million downloads on Google Play. On 28 July 2022 it was removed from both stores following a government order. Wikipedia links the Section 69A order to the 2020 PUBG Mobile ban; it names no section for the 2022 removal, and neither do we.

The return came in steps. India Today reported on 19 May 2023 that KRAFTON had announced the relaunch, and quoted MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s tweet calling it “a 3 month trial approval”. Krafton India CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn told the outlet the company had “received permission to restart operations”.

Wikipedia records the ban as removed on 26 May, per KRAFTON. Android downloads opened on 27 May, but IGN India reported that servers stayed inactive until Monday, 29 May, when iOS also opened. The Android download was 791MB.

Is BGMI available in India now?

The Google Play listing, read by this desk on 18 October 2026, shows BGMI by KRAFTON with 100M+ downloads and describes India-based servers. None of the pages read here says what final decision followed the 2023 trial, so we do not claim one. BGMI Lite is a separate question: its launch status had no date as of 15 October. For what the two clients mean for competitive play, see BGMI Lite against BGMI and the BGMI esports roadmap, assessed.
